Wrap Conversion: Ring Tai

Wompat Ring Tai is a combination of a comfortable wrap tai, easy-to-use buckle carrier and the great features of a woven baby wrap. There are no plastic buckles or hard webbings that could feel uncomfortable. The soft wrap-like shoulder straps are fixed to small sling rings. The straps feel incredibly comfortable and they fit for parents of different size and babys of all ages.

The body panel of the Ring Tai is the same style as we use with our Wompat SSCs and also the cute sleep hood is included. The Ring Tais are made entirely from woven baby wrap fabric. Soft layer of fleece is added to the waist band and shoulder straps. The body panel comes with darts so the baby's bum will settle in a deep pouch. There is also soft padding under the baby's legs.

There are four sizes available: baby, medium, toddler and pre-school size. The age and size recommendations are average estimations. If you can't decide between two sizes, please think about when do you need it the most: do you need the carrier right now or maybe a little later. If you need it now, the smaller size is probably right for you. But if you want to be able to use the carrier as long as possible, then you might want to choose a bigger size.


  • Baby size (4/6-18 months, clothing size (EU) 68/74-86): Hight 38 cm, width between the legs 33-35 cm
  • Medium size (1-3 years, clothing size 86-92): hight 41 cm, width between the legs about 41 cm
  • Toddler size (2-4 years, clothing size 92-98): hight 45 cm, width between the legs about 45 cm
  • Pre-school size (3-5 years, sizes 98-104/110): height 50 cm, width between the legs about 50 cm

The waist band is a mei tai type and slightly padded. The shoulder straps are about 110 cm long, 20 cm wide and softly padded on top of the shoulder. The straps are made of double layer baby wrap fabric all the way. You can spread the shoulder strap over your shoulder and back and this makes carrying in front very comfy. When you carry the baby on your back, you can gather the strap on top of your shoulder to make it narrower and use it the rucksack style. Or you can spread it half way open and get a really wide strap that cups nicely over you shoulder. The shoulder straps are attached to small aluminium rings on each side of the body panel and you can adjust the straps smoothly. The idea is the same as with a regular ring sling. Spread the fabric evenly over the rings to make it slide more easily when tightening. It is also good practice to un-fasten the straps from the rings every now and then and string the straps again because they can become twisted over time.

Wear the waist band the out side facing towards your body so that the panel will hang directly towards the ground in the starting position.

Wompat Ring Tai was originally designed for carrying a baby on your back but it is equally comfortable for front carries, too. In a fron carry the shoulder straps are crossed behind your back. You can attach the straps to the opposite side rings even before you put the baby on. Just leave them as loose as possible. Then pick up the baby and set her in front of you and facing towards you. Lift the body panel up and lift each shoulder strap over the baby and over your head one by one and cross them over your back. Make sure the fabric is not twisted. If this doesn't feel the right way for you, you can also fix each strap to the rings after the baby is in the carrier.

Tighten the straps: pull all loose matiarial down from your shoulders and back and as close to the rings as possible. Then pull the strap right behind the rings backwards little by little. This is easier to do, if there's no weight on the strap that you try to tighten so lift the strap from the shoulder with your other hand. If you are planning on using the Ring Tai mostly in a front carry, we recommend a little longer straps. You can tie the longer straps under baby's bum and leave the rings unused. About 140-150 cm long straps are suitable for most parents to do this.

There are also many other ways to tie the ring tai. For example you can tie it like a Japanese onbuhimo (back carry): string the shoulder straps through the rings and tie them on your waist or over your chest with a double knot. You can do the same in a front carry also (if the straps are long enough): cross the straps behind your back, string through the rings and make a knot behind your back.

Wompat Ring Tai can be washed in a machine. We recommend a cool water wash (30 degrees of Celcius) and an unbleached detergent for delicates. Shape the carrier while it's damp and dry it on a clothesline or lie it flat. All un-padded parts of the carrier can be ironed.
